I taught Agile Mind for a year. I was one of the few that liked it lol. I still lean heavily on tasks because of Agile Mind. Our test scores jumped that year.
Honestly, for me curriculum depends on the learner. I have some students that respond really well to the free curriculum that Khan Academy offers and others that need more than that. They need something like Khan Academy and some scaffolding supports of modeling and working together to make it all click. I find supplemental supplies all the time via images, books, and even smaller, cheaper curriculum packs from other websites.
Thank you! Yes I agree but our district wants us to pick a curriculum so I wanted some feedback on a few of the curricula we are looking at. I am constantly using supplemental material myself.
We use McGraw Hill till the new framework comes out after next year. The online stuff is pretty cool, and it comes with ALeks for practice. We used to have Carnegie learning, which was way too hard. We finally got rid of that trash, but my district loves to pick complicated curriculum because it looks sexy, and they have no idea that it's too hard despite many complaints.
I work at a continuation high school, too!
Look into Math Nation
Thank You!
My best advice is never use one curriculum or book. I have written all of my high school math and science curriculum and revamped according to STAAR Testing. It is not easy, but at least you know what is right for your students. I have been spending a lot of time integrating 8th grade math concepts into a challenging Algebra 1 curriculum because my students take both tests and they do not get the 8th grade math class. I also have incorporated multiple assignments in edulastic every two weeks so they get the exposure to the online items because the state of Texas has decided to make things even more difficult.
We use HMH “Into Math.” I really like it!
I am currently using Clark's Creative Education curriculum. I teach various levels of math (algebra Pre-algebra math123 integrated math) I use this curriculum because I can sort through it for the concept I need in an interactive format along with real life applications and occasionally STEM extensions.
It's been perfect for everything I need.
Agile minds is a good curriculum as long as the students are NOT remedial students. Agile Mind requires students who are motivated and open minded. Students who have failed multiple times have other issues that need addressing, including their own assumption of failure.
