Take intentional breaks from the work. A teacher’s job seems never ending so it is important to draw the line for physical and mental rest.
I would always take a walk around campus during my conference period. I also never took work home (after the first few years of teaching). I'm not currently teaching because of the stress it caused me over 7 years, but I'm still working in education. Teaching is the most stressful job I've ever had and I couldn't take it anymore so I elected to take a lesser paying job to reduce stress levels (if you can believe a job pays less than teaching). It has helped my mental well-being.
I'd have to say I mostly don't. However, I no longer do school work on the weekends. I have a special needs adult son and my working every spare minute last year significantly effected him. He began to see himself as a burden to me. I can't have that, so my time out of school is based around him. All that being said, Early Saturday mornings is my time to myself. I can drink coffee on the porch until sunrise and then work on things I need to do that will give me a sense of accomplishment. Maybe I will do laundry, but maybe I will create greeting cards for people I care about.
Looking at everything in lenses of gratitude and socializing.
Enjoy my time off!
