I am thinking of telling my leadership that I will leave the USAF when my enlistment ends unless I can get assigned a particular shop. I hear the Army offers its members incentives like permanent change of stations (PCS) or going to schools to help retention. Does the Air Force do anything similar? What's the best way to get what you want out of leadership and express your desire to work in the shop in a calm-cool-collected manner?

Be careful of how you approach that with your HRC! If retention in your career field bad at all, they will tell you to have a nice life and good luck! I was a Detailer in the Navy for a few years when the economy was crap, and Sailors tried that tactic, and it only backfired on them. They ended up getting orders and location they didn’t want because they waited for us on their bluff. Well, it NEVER worked! Good luck and be humble to your HRC and put the discussion to your career progression.

I agree with you. I've never seen something like this work before.

How did it go, OP? I'm planning to do the same in the near future.

Ohh. That's a bad approach to tell you honestly. Do you have something to leverage? If none, then this will never work.
