What was your primary reason for joining the military?

It will sound silly, but my mother always wanted me to be in the military. As a teenager it never really caught my attention, but when I went to my first camp I knew there was something interesting about it. So I enlisted.

You know, sometimes you join because you have no other direction to go in life.

I wish I could say that it was a high and noble calling, that I wanted to support freedom for our country, something like that; but honestly, I just needed a place to live and something to strive for. I could either try to live on the streets or make it work. It was a good decision for me, I became a lot stronger in the process.

At one point in my life, I felt that I needed the discipline to keep moving forward, in the exercise I achieved this and more, and although it has not been easy I am proud.

In my case, I felt that my country needed me, and today I have been in my career for 20 years.

I didn't have much of a relationship with my folks so it was kind of a foregone conclusion, I just needed to get out of their home... and FAST. It turned out that having a purpose is really what I had been lacking and after basic training (which was difficult but certainly survivable) I really came into my own, so I stayed and made it a career. It's something I became proud of little by little, because it didn't always seem like I was doing something important but looking back, I can't imagine my life having turned out better in any other career. "This We'll Defend" are words to live by. Our nation is absolutely worth protecting and I may have stumbled into patriotism but the sense of purpose was lifechanging for me

Honestly, came for the Education Benefits. Quickly found far deeper meaning over the next few years.

I always wanted to serve. Just felt like something I had to do. My Father served in the Army so I grew up around Veterans. I was fascinated by everything Military and I wanted to be a part of something amazing. I enlisted a little later in life. First Army then switched to Air Force.

This must be the wrong bowl, and i haven’t seen a post like this here so please, apologies in advance. I reconsidered my priorities during the covid crisis, and felt pretty ashamed about how little charity i had done. Long story short, i now work on the fundraising committee of a small multiple sclerosis charity. Our big annual event was forced to go remote and our fundraising took a beating. If anyone would like to learn more and help make a donation, please write me ❤️ thanks!!!!

Hi Everyone, I’m looking for advice. Right now I’m currently facing a hard decision. I’ve been at my work for 5 months as an HR assistant and have been given the opportunity to take on the Executive Assistant role. I’m in my early 20’s and still unsure what career path I want to take. I know I want to keep moving up and doing more but again, not sure where I want to be. I’d appreciate your thoughts and advice from your experiences along with pros/cons on either position. Anything would help!

Can someone please advice me how to get into Managerial positions or similar positions with little to no coding… as coding takes most of my time and i start to hate it recently. I wish to manage people and move forward into higher position’s holding accountable and receiving recognition which can solve business issue than breaking my head why my code breaks.
