Hi Everybody,
I'm currently working as an outsource in Rapid Metro as Technical Assistant/Civil. I earned a Master degree in Water Resource Engineer after B.Tech in Civil Engineering. Due to Covid 19 I took job back in Civil sector even though I have a masters degree in WRE. It's been almost 6 months of constant applying and rejection and still I'm nowhere close to a job in my dream branch which is the Water sector.Im hopeful that through this portal I may find an entry level position in water

What area of the city are you looking?if you’re looking for a building that is top tier and has all the amenities (pool, sauna etc) then it will be that much. I live in a luxury bldg but not top tier and i pay 3850 for a 600 ft studio

Apartments in high rise buildings have increased in price tremendously since Covid. In Manhattan you will see 1 bedroom apts now averaging 5k-6k this year, without anything special in them.
I would keep looking at buildings, you will need to trade off something. Ideally you want to find a building that has a 421a and caps yearly increases to 3%, usually newer buildings with tax abatements that can be pricer upfront but you at least know yearly increases.
Brodsky apartments 75 West End has decent prices and by the river if you like to run/walk. Also 10-15 min walk from Central Park.

I read that usually happens towards the end of the tax abatement when they phase it out. The first 8 years of my contract didn’t have any fees, and recently they started introducing them as they are towards the end of their 20 yr abatement. I was able to negotiate.
All fees would be stated in the contract though.
If you make 350K it’s time to save a downpayment and buy a place.
Agreed! I bought at the tail end of COVID and couldn't be happier. Mortgage and maintenance are lower than what I was paying in rent for a larger apartment. I live in Manhattan, 10 min on the subway to the office, 45 min walk home when it's nice out.
You’re doing something wrong if you can’t find anything for less than $6500, that’s insane. How do you define “nice” and “large”? I’m assuming you’re not from here, so you need to adjust expectations for Manhattan.
I live UWS/Lincoln Square, 680 sq ft, in unit laundry, floor to ceiling windows, doorman, etc and pay $5500. I’m honestly confused why you can’t find anything that fits your budget unless you expectations are really out of whack.
Manhattan is an island. The population keeps growing, yet the island isn’t getting any bigger. Most other cities just can sprawl outwards but here, the prices go up and force people to move. It’s basic supply and demand. San Francisco is on a peninsula and faces a similar problem.
I'm not understanding the Principle here. Did you not do research on the cost of living in one of the most expensive cities to live in this country before going to Manhattan?
It has to do with what you’re considering “nice”
I have a furnished 1 bedroom in Chelsea for 5300 I’m renting out
What type of amenities are you looking for?
Lots of options in the UWS

Why not move out of Manhattan
Can also move to Brooklyn where there's more space for less, and proximity to Manhattan. Also of note, the Williamsburg and Bushwick sections have similar perks to living in certain parts of Manhattan: bars, cafes, clubs and sports/fitness venues
Buy a house in Jersey or Queens/LI at that point
I find so many nice 1BR in luxury buildings for less than 6k.
If you go on the UWS, Midtown, or Fidi are you’ll get even more for your buck than if you absolutely want Chelsea, West Village …
Just depends on what you consider nice, but at these prices, they have gyms, pools, doormen …

Live in UWS - Riverside and pay 5600 for a 950 sqft new apartment with doorman etc. Plenty in UWS
Define “nice”. For me that would be a place close enough to comfortably walk to work, with in-unit laundry and no crazy stuff like washing clothes with coin operated machines lol, ideally with a nice city view of other tall buildings (mostly for night views because I love city lights), and a relatively modern building with no weird issues. Nothing too fancy though. Even if you make that much money, it’s always good to invest whatever extras you can save from it rather than spending it on things like exuberant rent just because you can afford it.
I’m probably going with something for 7k that generally meets my needs
This is just the nature of the beast and rents will only continue to increase as people aren’t buying at the rates the used. There seems to be no cap on what New Yorkers are willing to pay in rent.
help me iam from gaza

You are joking. I have found numerous things for less than that
