I just gave notice. I’ll need to take some of my work products with me because I’m flying solo. What is the best way of leaving the firm with some of your work products besides taking photos of them? 🥲

Filings are public, so you should be able to get some from pacer or state court websites. For things like discovery, research memos, letters, do you have them in your email? If you can access your email from your personal devices, you should be able to just download the attachments.

I asked my firm if I could isolate forms I had created that I wanted to take with me and then the firm gave a yay or nay on each one. I wasn’t permitted to take much, but I was permitted to take some things. So, rather than taking nothing, you could always ask and maybe get something.

Look at your State’s ethics rules along with any clause of your employment contract and maybe consult with an attorney.

Your State may have opinions which state things you created while there are documents you are entitled to keep - or it may not say that.

ABA has some guidance on this, but it is ultimately your State’s rules that matter.

Should’ve done that before giving notice. Now you are being watched.

Idea might be dumb and have flaws - If they’re already on your work computer as local files, could you upload them to LinkedIn? Is there a way to save draft posts or messages anywhere on LinkedIn or could you send them to a friend to get them to you later?

About two years ago, begin bcc’ing a special email address with your work on it. It helps build a forms library.

Brilliant

Email the MP and he'll forward you a copy 😉.

See I was always emailing myself various docs and forms throughout my time at the large law firm so I was lucky to have some things already “saved.”

I didn’t do a dump of files when I left but i did take 3 useful templates by emailing them to myself from my personal email on my work machine. Didn’t use work email for that.

If your firm is large (lame) enough to track you via IT on your last two weeks to see if you mailed yourself some sample questions or your own work product, well that sucks for them.

like

I’ve printed a handful of things (at the time I was working on them) for the purpose of keeping copies if I ever move firms again, because I took nothing with me when I lateraled. It’s not that the the new firm doesn’t have exemplars; I just miss MY old work product.

like

Is there anyway you can download them under the guise you’re still working on those matters til you leave

like

I can’t access them without administrative control being granted to me lol

I could have emailed them to my personal email as well before I gave notice but I felt like they could track these as well 🥲

like

They can. Good thing you didn’t do that.

likeuplifting

How good can your skills be if you need to rely on work product? Yes, it’s nice to have to not recreate, but you only have to recreate once.

like

I’m pretty sure it’s not yours to take.

Same. Cute!

likefunny

If they are documents of public record, you can take.

Hand written notes? That’s your work product, not technically taking from the firm. Noted of course can be very very very detailed ...

Hi all. I’m a new hire as an associate tech consultant, been here for ~2 weeks.

This week, I’ll be meeting my senior manager (who is also my counsellor) in a 1:1 virtual session. Any tips on specific questions I should ask? I’m meeting him for the first time and thought I might want to learn a lot from him!

Thanks :D

like

⚠️Toxicity Alert ⚠️

My previous manager would track us by hours daily, made a fuss everytime anything stretched and guilt us for that and the unplanned leave too unless it was COVID. Hinted him a lot of time, this is problematic but apparently he considered it "standard practice for agile".

Now 8/10 teammates have switched within < 1 year of project start (6-7 months with him) which tbh had good work in our opinion and even team was fun to work with even though none of us ever met in person.

I have a CD that gets extremely flustered when you ask them for their opinion on a solution. For example after showing them multiple color pallets and CD not quite liking any of them (real Goldie locks moment) i suggested why not we do (fill in three colors here), the CD freezes up and gets annoyed because they don’t want to say yes or no without seeing it in front of them. Working on tight turn arounds and a cd who is too busy for meetings it proving tough with remote working. Any tips?

What’s the best way to deal with a partner that prefers working solo? For context, this writer I work with conceptualizes by himself, emails the Account team, gives deep input, and makes decisions for us without consulting with me (his “partner”) most of the time. While I appreciate his proactiveness, I feel excluded, limited, and without much room to co-lead the work with him. I don’t know how to bring this up without sounding like I’m b*tching about it.

Super frustrating when an experienced hire comes in as an A2 and is given an acting senior role when he knows nothing...

Anyone witness slackers who got into companies you have no idea how? Had a coworker who does jack chit at work besides chatting on Facebook yet lands at a faang company? I guess if he brings the same work ethic he will be spit out for sure. Or maybe he just had no interest in doing project work.

Am I particularly uptight, or is writing meant to be done alone, without a partner talking to you? With past partners, we chat through script notes and then I go off to execute. Current partner likes to sit and chat as I write. To me, writing is crafting a conversation. So I can’t talk to you and simultaneously talk to this audience. Of course I can just say “I’m gonna go write.” But since we’re both CD level, I’m like…is this his first rodeo? Maybe other writers are different though.

He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife.
