It’s truly dumb that the federal government cannot establish a standard and stick to it so I feel your confusion and frustration but it’s just that.
My understanding is yes. TS is good for two years when not active. However there is no true answer. The verdict really comes down to your next client. If their security is okay with accepting that you took time away from the cleared space then they will grant you reciprocity. If they’re not then they’ll turn you away or ask for an reinvestigation.
Hmmm. Ok, people are saying it depends what it says in NBIS/DISS. But I’ve heard the two year mark as well. Ok thank you!

Presuming the underlying investigation is still in scope, your clearance will be current for two years from the date of last use and can be administratively reinstated with just a bit of paperwork.
I know you say you want to take a year off (not working), but signing up with security monitoring companies is a way to keep your clearance active. Just in case.
I have never heard of this before, how does this work?
