Is Herman Miller the undeniable winner in the office chair market or is Steel Case a contender for first?

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).

Anyone found an affordable adjustable standing desk they like? I have an iMac and a laptop is like to be able to fit on it.

Is anyone’s company offering to pay portion of your rent as home office expense? Especially if company is no longer paying for commercial office space?

Trying to avoid paying an accountant, can I actually write off home office space/mileage if I was just permalancing for 3 months last year? Shouldn’t the 7 months of W2 take care of this 1099 shit?

1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. I have 12 years of experience.. in all interviews I really does well except writing sql queries.. though I have 12 years of sql experience whenever they ask in interviews to write even basic queries I will get nervous and my mind goes blank.. how to overcome this problem?
