I decided that in the fall I want to change up how we work on college essays and focus more heavily on creative non-fiction as a literary form in general, then change that over to using these strategies/concepts in their own essays. I think this might alleviate some of the pressure while also inspiring them to get a bit more creative with it and showing them all that a personal essay can be. Thoughts?

I recommend working with memoirs!

The first big text I do with my 9th graders is a memoir, then towards the end of the year, we sometimes do another one. The former really leans into some fictional elements, which makes for great discussion about whether details should be "enhanced" for the sake of storytelling. The latter is more straightforward with less fiction involved.

uplifting

Great idea. Also, a little paragraph from another author (that students can emulate) can help students who have blank page syndrome.

How can I pivot from working as an ad agency art director to a commercial director/DP? I’m trying to get on as much commercial production experience as possible in my current role to build up experience. My original thought was to work my way up to Creative Director and pivot from there but I’m not sure if that’s the correct route. Any advice is appreciated!!
