I also advise retaining a plaintiff-side employment attorney as soon as possible. You have a certain time period in which to file a charge with the EEOC to preserve your ability to sue in federal court, which is a major strategic advantage.
I hope you’re able to achieve a settlement to pay for the time it takes to find new employment, your COBRA, and for emotional distress damages.
I’m so very sorry this happened to you.
Yeah if you’re in CA you don’t want fed court, you want state court. But yes consult with someone soon to figure out the statutes of limitations/strategies for your jurisdiction.
Seconding or thirding the recommendation to find a good plaintiff's side employment lawyer, and DO IT FAST. The statute of limitations on this stuff is only 180 days, or 300 days if there happens to be a local or state anti-discrimination rule in your area that also makes what they did illegal.
To reiterate: You have 180 days TO FILE YOUR EEOC COMPLAINT. That means you have way, way less than 180 days to engage a law firm and have them negotiate a settlement with your former employer, which is probably what you really want to do, because if you settle rather than having to file then it all stays confidential.
Thst sounds like an employment law case where you get to be the client.
Hostile work environments and emotional abuse are not something to take lightly. The abuse I endured in a similar workplace heavily affected my psyche. I began to doubt myself, my abilities, and question my 38 year career.
I am now a life coach!
I'm sorry that happened to you. Know that you can heal from it. Seeking therapy and an employment lawyer is a great step towards healing!
Congratulations for taking a stand. No one deserves to be treated that way in any relationship whether work or personal.
Document everything , find a good employment lawyer. They should pay for what they did.
Get barred in Alaska and be a solo. The state desperately needs more attorneys and people there can pay. Oh and most of the courts let you appear remotely for court.
My MBE score is 278, just under their requirement…
You were berated and made fun of due to your disability? Your boss is clearly taking lessons from POTUS. Everything has gotten more brutal with the current administration. Wishing you the best.

This hurt my heart today. You deserve better. I’m so sorry.
If you were there for 5 minutes, I wouldn’t put them on your resume. There’s not going to be any way to bring them up in a way that helps your employment chances.
Suing a law firm can get you blackballed pretty quickly.
Hence the need to hire a law firm and IMMEDIATELY have them start negotiating a settlement with your ex employer. That way it all stays confidential.
Look up Sanford Heisler.
Sue them
OP: Just checking in. How are you doing?
Have you been able to speak to any attorneys? Finding a good employment lawyer can itself be a challenge.
Owner: How many YOE did you have when you started your firm?
Your journey is inspirational!
I'm so sorry to hear this. Which state are you located in? Def get a lawyer.
I am glad you left. They need consequences
Congratulations for escaping! There are good firms with good people where you will thrive. Don't give up.
