I accumulated 20x more challenges coins as a DoD consultant than I did on active duty.

I’m not going to post pics because my collection is pretty recognizable, but I will share a story — once I did a project down at a shipyard, and during introductions I mentioned I’d once deployed on a ship that had been built there. One of the engineers went and dug up an old challenge coin from when that boat was launched and gave it to me. I thought that was pretty cool.

The 4th Space Warning Squadron was activated on August 3, 2019. I was a part of the squadron at the time it was activated and being stood up. Our unit history can be traced back to the defense support program (DSP) satellite mission that was run out of Holloman AFB since 83.

How many of you became "Motto" after the service?

🤣

For those of you who got out at 10, do you wish that you rode it out to 20? I’m at a crossroad and I’m not sure what to do. Have some active/reserve time, wrapping up graduate school, and am now considering either a) come back to the business world or b) go active and retire before 50 and live off a nice pension. Obviously there are draws to both. I’m an officer for what it’s worth so I can realistically retire at O-5, MAYBE O-6.

Anyone here downshift in life post service?

Feel like I've been going full bore for the past decade and literally have no problem continuing the trend. Like I could just keep marking milestones and grinding or whatever until I die.

Wondering when if anyone else felt similar and decided to pull back and do something more relaxing. What was the catalyst, what are you doing, and are you enjoying it?

I'd considered taking up a 9-5 somewhere but not sure if thatd wear off fast.
