I just don't negotiate. I put an offer that's fair, and if they try to lowball me, I label them as "evil" and move on
Same. I was in a position one time where I felt desperate, and maybe they sensed that, because despite my experience they low balled me. And I like the author blindly accepted. And I felt the same way. Never settle. Almost nothing good comes from it.
Remember this pain and remorse you have now and don’t sell yourself short. Also, don’t be afraid to walk away from a project
All you need to do is exit and do the old switch arooooo, say politely let me find out if we can push this limits …. Exit the phone by a hold … or go to the boss and say to him I’m really trying to get this handled just look at me and nod your head and frown your face then shake your head then say okay we can then u go back to the client and say I wasn’t able to get it at $3k but I did get it at 4300.00 with you paying today 3900.00 and giving the option for next week remit the difference if that will help you financially
Most slickers don’t like to be deemed as a person whom needs help financially so say that and they they will say yes or leave it how it was at the $5k anyway bc if they are talking $3k anything typically they got it at least three times
State your price, then say nothing. If they counter, restate the value. If you are open to consider a counter, know your # in advance. If they low ball but you really want the biz, have room to negotiate things they won't get at that price.
When they come back with a number that’s almost twice as low, you should at least try to meet them halfway back if you still feel like doing the project, so $4k, or state what the best and final number for you is. I wouldn’t necessarily feel shame about accepting the lowball offer though, there must have still been a valid reason why you accepted it even if it’s low. But it definitely could be better, because again, they came back with such a low number that it probably was on purpose and they were expecting at least one renegotiated price from you.
Consider reading “ Never Split the Difference”. Excellent read!
Don’t negotiate price, negotiate scope. That way you don’t feel undervalued. You want to pay $2k less, well you get $2K less. Offer to tweak project output or expectations down to something that fits in their budget.
