I had a conversation with a director who recently who flat out said they prefer to hire someone with at least six years of experience. What are your thoughts on this?

I understand both sides but it makes me feel so bad for anyone who can’t find a job potentially due to this….

I recently had a conversation with a co-worker about this topic. He said that job descriptions have desired years listed, but will look at years and education as an alternative. Do you think education can substitute for some experience?

At my hospital, it does and it’s stated right on job listings too. For example if it requires 6 years of experience but you have a bachelors, they’ll accept 4 years.

It's one of the biggest flaw in the corporate system. How do we expect people to get work experience if they need experience to get work? It doesn't make any sense. Give people a chance.

That is very true!! I wish it wasn’t that way.

My company has a DPSP program that feeds it directly into an RRSP account. I don't believe there's any RRSP contribution matching program on top of the DPSP (I know I should know, I'm being bad). Assuming there's no matching program, is there still a point in signing up for a X% contribution every paycheck?

When an organization is not adequately staffed, be sure increase the number of meetings to address how to allocate people. Forcing negotiations at multiple org levels around the same decisions will ensure everyone is totally aligned.

This accomplishes three things:
1) Everyone is mad at each other since they’re competing for people
2) They’re confused and not able to pay attention to the root issue of chronic under staffing
3) They’re distracted from blaming mgmt for the root cause.

My pie day pie (belated!) Ina Garten’s chocolate banana cream recipe. My first time ever making a pudding. I have to say it was amazing to go from muttering “oh shit” for a solid 20 minutes of mixing the eggs/milk too aggressively into a foam and finally seeing it condense into pudding. Deffo recommend trying it!

I need some advice. I’m the Director for a women’s only RTF. Everyone on site is my direct report, with the exception of the therapists (they report to the Clinical Director). The clinical director is not usually on site, since we have multiple locations, and she is the CD for the entire company. One of the therapists has been a manipulative snake since she started here last December. This is her first job after college and she just turned 23. See comments for more info…

How do I keep my team engaged when I am also struggling to stay motivated?

Our department has had a lot of turnover within the last few months, all of which were from different reasons (school, family issues, opportunities close to home, etc.). It has been a challenge to divide the workload, while still trying to remain flexible and provide a work-life balance.

However, I’m starting to feel stressed and disengaged. Any suggestions to make it through the changes?
