OP: I came back to big4 at the Manager level and there is nothing that I have seen that would make my path to PPMD more difficult because I came from a midsize firm. There other challenges unrelated to the fact that you come from a midsize firm. Feel free to DM if you want more insight. Cheers
Wait we wanna know about the unrelated factors too. Tell us! 😤
I'm not an expert but the odds are really not good of making partner at the big 4. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try if it's what you want to do. Still a valuable opportunity and there is always the possibility you beat the odds.
If in the right niche and being a rainmaker -yes.
If planning to rely on expertise, hard work and technical skills - no.
I’m living this....
That’s a great question....right now weighing options as the clock ticks for full firm funded retirement vesting.
I’m sure weirder things have happened before
I think the biggest challenge is building the relationships with the Partners for them to eventually become your sponsors. That would apply to anyone changing firms and this would not isolated to new hires coming from midsize firms. This is by no meals a deal breaker but this is someone that you will need to focus on from day 1.
If you’ve got it, you’ve got it. Manager is a good time to get in. Early enough to have some space to network and grow at the firm.
It could be challenging
Agree with EY4. The added effort should be on the relationship and network development. Just remember that when you start as a manager, you will be working with managers who had been working for the same partners for 5+ years so they likely already have solid relationships (in general) with those partners.
