I had a final round where they asked how quickly I could ramp up in a completely new tool stack, then rejected me because another candidate had already used their exact platforms. It feels like companies want zero learning curve even for midlevel roles now. Are people seeing less willingness to train than before?

Oh, absolutely. I don't know why they are so allergic to the idea of training the right person? It's almost like we're all expected to know every single platform at an expert level or they will find somebody who at least claims they do.

like

Be grateful they even did you the courtesy of telling you *why* as in my experience they simply either drop out of touch and don't reply or they give meaningless platitudes that give no information.

Times ain't what they should be.

like

They have so many candidates to choose from that they don't need to invest the time and effort into training.

like

They probably would've trained you but unfortunately its more who you are up against than what skills you have! If there's someone ready to go, it's likely they will go with them.

smart

Looking at it from a business perspective, "plug and play" beats "three month learning curve". From the applicant's perspective, see the next skill you need to develop and work on it.

There are abundant training resources available. Find what you need and get going.

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

I have an offer to do some consulting for a company based out of the UK (I am in the US). The job would not go through a consulting company but would be directly with the company. I have not done any consulting before so I am not sure how it works, what I would need to set up (they mentioned that I would start a LLC and bill them directly, no idea how to do that), how to determine the tax implications of this, or what hourly rate I would expect. Can anyone offer advice?

Looking for a remote/hybrid/onsite (Calgary,Alberta) job for my boyfriend who got almost 5 years of experience in proposal writing, RFP, RFI and bid management for a civil engineering firm. He also got an MBA, non drinker, non smoker, clean driving abstract and very polite. He gave out tons of cv in indeed job posters for the past 5 months, ends up becoming the filler candidate, took a huge toll in his mental health and we are going through some very rough patches. Can anyone please kindly help?

I am seeking new employment, I was recently laid off due to lack of work. I would very much appreciate any leads. I have a Bs in Construction Management and over 15 years experience with Revit and AutoCAD and 7 years of plumbing design. I have solid references and impeccable work ethic. I truly enjoy what I do. Working remotely the last three years has become a way of my life and supports our current situation well, therefore I am seeking a similar role but will consider other opportunities.

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?
