Well, I mean, they normally try to squeeze a full day out of you before kicking you out. Start the day with it, and you start texting people, word gets around, coworkers get awkward.

How much warning did you get? Did they email you beforehand? How long is it? What’s the title of the meeting? Do you know of anyone else laid off recently?
In that case, it’s probably exactly what they say it is. They know how it looks meeting with HR. If it’s something more serious, they usually keep it vague. But, just in case, back up all your files. And, don’t be surprised if they try to bring up another topic that might have to do with your performance.
