Have my closing interview with Accenture next week. So far the Director and MD I have met with have both liked me and the recruiter has said that they have both given me a thumbs up and that the upcoming closing interview with the MD is just a conversation. From my research I’ve also read that it’s just a sanity check to make sure I’m not a nutcase. Of course anything can happen, but I’m expecting an offer. (Cont)

That's a fairly egocentric view of yourself. Maybe they interviewed a lot of candidates and liked another candidate more? Nah, most likely you saying you like what you do.
Taking a stance against judgement as a whole is as broad as it is futile.
If you believe that, versus just saying it because you think it’s cool or “different” to say, then say it. If they’re “too cool” or jaded to still like what they do, screw ‘em.
I don’t think saying you love what you do would trip anyone up. Although if you said “unlike most creatives” i love advertising that could throw up a bit of a flag (I don’t know that most creatives don’t love advertising - and the tone may make me question how it would be to work with you.)
That said, who knows, perhaps there’s another explanation. Maybe you got the earlier jobs because you were a good creative. Maybe as you’re moving up, you’re coming under more scrutiny to justify the higher salary. Maybe something you said gave them doubts about your ability to manage and lead. Or maybe they just felt another candidate was better for the specific role they were trying to fill.
Best not to beat yourself up too much. Just know there could be literally any number of reasons you came close but didn’t get it, some in your control and some not. Keep at it and the right opportunity will come along.
That’s super nice feedback. Really appreciate it!
I think for the most part creatives say “it’s just advertising” when we’re trying to talk a colleague who’s been putting in 50+ hours a week down from a freakout. It’s not about not liking advertising. So, I would say couching a statement about liking advertising in the context of other creatives not caring about it probably did come off the wrong way. Can’t tell you whether that was a deal breaker, but it would have flagged for me in an interview. I don’t have a super great explanation of why it would flag, but it did when I read the original question.
...the fact that I’ve said I really like advertising, different from lots of creatives in the industry.
I think that wasn’t something they wanted to hear.
Would love to hear CDs, ECDs and CCOs takes on this. Did I said something that can be interpreted in a non-cool way?
That wasn’t at all my intention but I understand that it could be understood that way. Really appreciate your feedback
How old are you? Ageism exists and could be a possible reason. I was the same as you but now that I’m looking my age things are changing.
It can be a factor for sure. I’m 38.
