I have an offer for a senior associate role at a $1B private equity. Currently a manager though, so a downgrade. Getting pay rise. Pros and cons of losing title?

Pros: more money, better experience, great exit opportunities Cons: you’ll be looked down on by society as a failure for no longer having manager in front of your name

Fork titles. Take that money. Your kids can’t eat the letters behind your name.

*snaps* to you sir.

Titles are meaningless. Value is: comp, responsibilities/experience, and exit opp

So glad we're no longer tied to big PwC, they refused to invest in their public sector practice, but now we are free!

Titles are cheap. What’s the role and how much will they pay you? Even in consulting, say at Booz, then Manager used to be called Senior Associate.

Lol got it, thanks G1!

hierarchy is different everywhere Look at pay and growth!

Your first year will likely be humbling - there’s a ton of learning that needs to happen before you’ll feel at all comfortable / qualified to manage a process (which is why the only way into the space is starting at the bottom). If they’re giving you a senior associate title and path to VP, that’s a pretty good opportunity

Have you tried pushing for the manager title? If not, you should negotiate for it.

I don’t think PE fund title hierarchy works the way you think it works

Can I take that PE role instead?

Titles are meaningless

Had my virtual on-site for an S&O L3 role 3.5 weeks ago (NYC, 5 YOE). I haven’t heard back on a decision yet, and was wondering how long it typically takes? I also know that I was one of the very first candidates to interview for this specific role, and there are atleast 2 more people scheduled for onsites. Does the recruiter typically wait for all candidates to finish their onsites before communicating a decision? Or if I haven’t heard back yet, it’s probably a reject?

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
