I have been working as a senior accountant for a long time (10+ years), I was not ever fired/layed off due to my prformance, most of the immediate managers/supervisors I worked with recently are not opvesilfy higher level of technical information,
Well , how can I go up to the higher level of the career ? Should i get an MBA or a license ,or do I have to stay in one company for long time enough to start climbing the organiztional ladder or get a chance of promotion?
What should I do ?

What’s stopping you from being promoted? 10 years is a long time to be in the same role. Is it the lack of mobility, or do your higher ups have a CPA, masters etc?

like

I think it’s not about your technical knowledge, but more about how you show leadership skills. Are you leading meeting, trainings other employees, know how to dedicate tasks, etc. I think with 10+ years, you probably have it but just not show it enough for the managements. Speak up and ask about promotion if you think you deserve it. Sometimes, mgmt not want to promote a super SA because now who will do all your works?
If in PA you prob need CPA to become a manager

Exactly this. Until you step up and show that you are ready to take on the role of the next level, you won’t be promoted. We don’t just promote people based on their years of experience, they actually need to take initiative and show that they want it. Do what your supervisors are doing and make it easier for them. Show them you can handle that next level.

In my experience lack of progress usually is gated due to lack of cpa certs. Is this the case here?

Honestly if you aren't fulfilled and happy, you should try to have a conversation with your current employer about career growth within the company and what is their plan for your development over the next 12 ton24 months. Once you have that conversation or lack of, that will tell you what you need to know so you can make the most informed decision that you can.

Likely due to you not job hopping. Typical

I always bill 100% of my time and for my entire career in public accounting I have never heard anything negative until recently.. I was told to watch my time as the client doesn’t like to pay these fees, and the partner is unhappy because it looks like I have high hours. Is the message that I should eat my time? Or is it that They think I’m inefficient?
