FYI called in to Amex and received offers to stay for both gold and platinum at 20k and 30k points respectively with no minimum spend.
I will likely keep CSR given the 100 decrease (from 550) and its too easy to breakeven
Good luck guys and gals
Keep the Plat at least through December so you can keep getting $40/month on streaming and phone bill. For Amex cards you can get a full annual fee refund if you cancel within 30 days of the fee hitting
I have all 4 of those and pay the full annual fee on all of them
Keep CSR. Scrap the rest.
How much have you spent on the Amex cards? Look up the retention line and tell them you are considering closing your Amex cards and if there are any retention offers (for the Plat - there are no offers for Chase).
If you have a retention offer (might have to try HUCA with a couple agents), you’ll either get a smaller fee with a waiver or another spending bonus (e.g. 20k points for $2k spend in 2 months).
Do you have a corporate Amex? Google “American Express Corporate Advantage Program” they discount your personal card annual fees a bit for having the corporate.
.
No unfortunately
Why do you need 2 premium credit cards? I would get rid of the Plat
My firm was paying for platinum last year but that won't be the case this year as I have transitioned.
I'm thinking of cutting everything except for CSR given most of my expenditures during this time are food and Amazon purchases.
I assume I can always upgrade back to Platinum / Gold if I wanted.
Which firm pays for platinum?
I have the chase sapphire preferred, Amex plat and Amex gold and find it’s a good balance of maxing points while saving a lot of credit card fees by going with the preferred instead of the gold
I personally just use the sapphire preferred as my backup card for when places don’t accept Amex, plus preferred gets 5x on lyfts, waived delivery fee on DoorDash and a few other small perks. Paying the additional reserve fee seems like it would be a no brainer but really isn’t one when I already have Amex platinum/gold and wouldn’t put much spend on the reserve card. It’s all personal preference though. I’d rather not be forced to pay for an additional travel credit that I may or may not use
Keep the CSR, sign up for a Chase Freedom and get the sign up bonus for 20K points. Transfer the points to CSR for better redemption.
Already have Freedom and Freedom Unlimited
Amex often refunds the prorated annual fee for their cards so all hope is not lost if you’re past the 30 days.
For Chase, everyone always talks about how great the CSR is, but the best way to do it involves getting an Ink Business Cash...how does five points per dollar sound? :)
Does your company let you use personal card for hotel?
If so def keep Bonvoy.
I'm ditching CSR due to COVID and will pick up Amex Plat once everything resumes.
Why keep the Amex Bonvoy? The free Chase Bonvoy gets you 15 elite night credits. 6x points are nice, but I’d probably prefer 3x UR points for the flexibility.
