Blame the government (which is in fact a representation the people) for consciously choosing to not learn from the better fiscal, monetary, and market policy instruments our neighbor in the south has (US), while constantly trying to pretend as being on moral high ground compared to the US because we have better healthcare (which in reality is inaccessible), better diversity (which is simply lipstick on a pig, because deep racism exists here), and perhaps better gun laws (which I think has some merit, but no way a winner).
Canada really needs to understand that we must open the market up for competition, reduce the size of the government, reform taxation, and stop accepting mediocrity as default ambition level.
TL;DR: Blame ourselves for continuing to choose governments on the basis of ‘less worse of the two’, and demand foundational reforms.
In what way is the US better run from a fiscal perspective? And in what way does the US not have the exact same problem that OP is highlighting?
In today's dollars you need a before tax income of roughly $285,000 to enjoy the 1981 middle class life style
So crazy. Guess I better earn more.
This is depressing. I blame the so-called "elected" officials who seem to completely forget about the people they're supposed to represent the moment they take office.
I am right there with you. I blame the people who have been elected in this country. Its just gotten so out of hand,
Lack of labor unions.
Thats family income not individual. Please get your facts right.
Which country are you from?
Your stats are off by a lottt
No that is correct, the issue is with the base numbers. Median household income in canada was ~22,000 in 1981 and is now roughly ~70000 from a quick google result
If you are using Toronto numbers, i can’t find the historic numbers but the current median household income is ~110,000
Could you please post your sources? Will help in validating if numbers are correct?
Initial glance seem impossible but maybe you’re right
The thing is this shouldn't be the case for Canada. We aren't some tiny island with no space and no resources that need to import everything. We have more space and resources than we need but people are struggling to survive. It's ridiculous
Lack of labor unions and outsourcing. Everything else is a smoke screen
