How much do you all have invested in safer funds vs stocks (outside of retirement accts)?
Currently at a NW of ~350k and have 125k in funds and around 70k in stocks, including ESPP. I’m fairly young (late 20s) and wondering if I should throw more into the stock market over the next few months or wait it out for a correction

$0 - I have a small emergency fund. Since I’m single and have roommates, I don’t need much liquid cash. The people who wait almost never pull the trigger at the right time. For example, you should have thrown all of that money into stocks in March, unless it was a random windfall.

Edit: I’m 26 and probably won’t change anything until I’m at least 40.

Around 400k in non retirement accounts (late 20s). Should probably diversify some more. I'm investing every day as it's not worth trying to time the market

130k real estate (net equity)
100k stocks
120k google stock 🤣
50k cash

220k separately for retirement.

like

How did you get started in real estate and what have your returns there looked like?

I am also curious

In your 20s there’s no need to be safe

I'm 23, have a NW of $50k, $45k of which is in equities with a heavy allocation to tech. $5k cash. If sh*t hits the fan I can move back home if needed. I don't see myself allocating a good chunk of my investments to safer funds for at least another decade. Now is the time to take risks and grow your investmenting base.

How did you achieve a NW of 350k in your 20s?

As Google 1 said, it’s not worth trying to time the market. Being in your late 20s, it’s more about time in the market; time is your best friend right now.

Hi team ,

I have started working from jul2019 and I have filed my tax return for 2020 and 2021 tax years.

However I note that there was withholding of some amount in 2017-2018 and 2019 tax years ( withholding from comission received from insurance commission from lic and United india)

I have not filed 2017, 2018, 2019 return as my total income was less than threshold

Is it possible to file return for 2017 , 2018, 2019( all r in refund) now without paying any penalty?

What is a simple way to explain to my boyfriend that investing in equity with an expected return of 10% is better than paying off debt that is growing at a rate of 6%. He has student loans and is adamant that he wants to pay all of them off immediately before saving any retirement money. I understand that many individuals use this strategy but I think investing in index funds for the long haul is better from a wealth accumulation perspective, without even factoring in tax implications of 401k

So I’m only contributing to 401k enough to get employer match, and I’m saving an additional ~20% and putting 90% of that into my vanguard mutual funds. Reasoning is that I don’t want to lock away all that money maxing out 401k. Have 3 months expenses liquid in a savings account. Is this really dumb? Essentially trading tax for the option of actually using my money.

Can someone point me to some material where I can read about profit sharing vs 401k. I get the concept, but I am trying to understand is 10% profit sharing vested over 5 years better than an employee 401k match of 6%?

From my understanding 10% PS is better because it’s just a standard 10% on top of whatever I contribute though it takes 5 years to vest. Does this mean if I leave before 5 years I don’t get any of it?
