I used to think applying for jobs felt like a job, but they've taken that to a whole new level. It almost feels like employers are trying to get free work out of applicants and it almost makes me wonder if they are genuinely looking or just taking advantage.
I think a lot of time it's busy work - "oh look, I was busy interviewing these candidates and wasn't able to make that cool flying animation thing". I saw a place with 8 rounds. None of this is about finding people - it's hiring performative theater.
I totally relate to this. I understand that a potential employer needs to know how people think, and having them do a test assignment might be part of it. Some employers really take it too far. I mean, they may have a job for me, but it's a job, it's not as special as they're making it seem. It's not like an Olympic medal or something.
