I have my first interview for a lateral hire position in a medium-size firm, and this is my first interview in years. Interview is set up with three of the partners. Any insight on questions to prep for, do I bring anything with me, any insight is helpful!

Congrats on the interview! I’d just double check the partners’ bios to find nuggets of commonality that you can bring up (as authentically as possible). The biggest thing imo is that you come off as like-able and relatable, since usually the interviews are for helping the partners find who they would enjoy working with the most. Good luck! You got this:)

Prepare for questions like 1, what are your strong points 2 what are your weak points 3 why do you want to work here, 4 why should we hire you?

Know your materials - resume, cover letter, reasons for wanting to move, reasons for liking this firm, their practices, etc.

Additional Posts in Ask A Recruiter - Law

I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Should I hold out for the offer or is 1+ week a sign that I won’t be selected?

How do find a recruiter in the legal field? Have been looking for a job for a year now and trying to transition into another practice area. Applied to more than 20 jobs and still no offers. I feel like I might need some help.
Also, I have no idea how these arrangements work. Do you pay the recruiter to look for the jobs or do you pay them when you get the job? Or does the employer pay them?

Next week I’m having my first lateral interview as a junior associate. I’m very nervous because the group with whom I’m interviewing works with life science/tech clients and the attorneys have strong science/tech backgrounds; and I do not. However, I am very, very interested in transitioning to this practice. And I reaaally want this job because it’s at my dream firm. How would you recommend preparing for the lateral interview?

Hi, been stuck in the contract analysis/review cycle. I have asked a few recruiters how to make a lateral move into in-house. They told me to focus on contract management, which I have been doing for the past year. Now that I have, are there any sites besides “jobscan” that I can use to make sure my resume fits the job descriptions? Does anybody know any recruiters that could help me, as well?
