Are you paid fairly now? I almost doubled from my first job to my second
Don’t factor in your current salary when getting a new job. Negotiations don’t have to compound each other. Research your market and the range for your position then ask for the highest number in the range. Also never answer if they ask your previous salary. You don’t have to and I think it’s illegal for them to ask in some states.
Say you’re looking for $90-100. Worse case scenario, you end up with $30k more.
Ask for what you know the role to be worth plus a percentage, your willing to give up in the negotiation
It is illegal to ask. But if they do, pad the hell out of it because they deserved it. Also, at that salary range, SC1 is right – approach it like a whole new ball game each time, not a % increase of your previous. Four years in, I went from $38K to $80K, 10 years in I went from $96K to $165K, 17 years in I went from $186K to $275K etc.
Nah, 15k is way less than 50k
Depends on how many years of experience you have. If you’ve been at your current place two years, ask for 80 and be happy with 70-75. If you’ve been there for 1, ask for 70 and be cool with 60-65.
Also, you can chat with a recruiter for a frank evaluation of what you can ask for. They can be good sounding boards.
