I've heard a couple of rough things about the culture at Barclays. They've been few and far between though. Most of what I've heard is very positive, at least from friends who work there.
Not sure what group you are joining but it seems like everyone at JPM wants to get out of the collateral team.
Pro
I worked with their TMT IB team in NYC and they were insane… kind of a bro ish culture
Having worked in CIB for both JPM (associate) and Barclays (AVP), in that order… I can say that JPM was way more competitive but paid less. Barclays left a bad taste in my mouth and personally wouldn’t want to go back there
What area in JPM
CIB Ops? If so, generally JPM is on the lower side of the pay scale so negotiate well on the way in because it’s easier to get paid on the way in vs moving up year over year.
Mobility is good. Generally supportive management and people willing to help you grow. Technology is poor and manual processes have to make up for that which leads to escalations that you have to deal with. In my experience top performers do get recognized and opportunities open up for them, but that may not necessarily translate into being paid well.
