Sounds like you already have you answer then...
Having had this card, I’d always take the cash. Cashing in my rewards for miles doesn’t make sense to me now. When you cash them in, you don’t accrue miles obviously and that hurts my chances at gold/play with Delta. I’ve got the Amex Plat ($550) from Morgan Stanley, but only because the fee is waived.
I already have GLOBAL entry, Chase BA, Chase IHG, Amex Hilton Ascend cards. CSR would give 3x points for restaurants and travel vs Costco's 3% cash back.
Which do you value more money or future funds for travel?
CSR is effectively 4.5% cash back when you redeem on travel, and then even more if you count the miles you you earn on that “cash” redemption.
I feel that 4.5% is great, but since I already have a 3% cash back card it would be a hefty investment to get that extra 1.5%, plus the fact that my points will be spread on yet another program.
Yeah, was looking more to see if there's an angle I missed. Between Global Entry benefit I would not use and bonuses on other cards I have, CSR would work only if I keep it for 1 year to get the $300 travel credit, get Global Entry for my wife and switch all restaurant expenses from Amex Hilton or Costco to CSR. Too much work in the end for little benefit. Might get it if (when) they put out some promo with a higher joining bonus.
