I have worked as an electrical technician for around 9 years working with HV systems, distribution, UPS and motors. now looking to pivot slightly into electronics or similar such as semi conductor industry. Can anyone pass some advice in order to help me make the move.

Do companies sometimes offer "gifts of appreciation" if you're not selected for a merit increase? My manager randomly called me to let me know I was chosen for the "gift" this year bc of my "hard work & dedication", except now I'm learning other colleagues are receiving actual merits.
