I hit manager in audit last year and thought it would finally feel worth it. It doesn’t. The pay bump was underwhelming, the hours didn’t change, and now I spend most of my time chasing down confirmations and cleaning up workpapers I didn’t even touch. I’m good with people, I’m calm under pressure, and I genuinely enjoy problem-solving. I have no idea how to translate any of that outside of audit. Everything I see is controller this, senior accountant that. Has anyone here successfully made a complete pivot like into strategy, ops, or something where you’re actually building things? How did you position yourself?

What helped me pivot into strategy was leading internal initiatives: software rollouts, team efficiency projects, even onboarding new clients. Those are business ops skills in disguise. If you can frame your impact in terms of outcomes and collaboration, you’ll get in the door.

Hello RSM coworkers! I am thrilled to be moving to RSM into a Scheduler roll. I just found out yesterday and want to be as prepared as possible in the next steps.

So here are my questions.

How long does the background study take? I'm guessing admin staff have a study that is faster and less complicated than someone in Tax ect.

When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I interned for Deloitte last summer, starting full-time this summer, and currently working a classified government job in-between. Will this be an issue during my second background check? Should I bring up to recruitment that I was contracted by the government in-between, or just leave it be? Thanks!

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)
