I think it all depends on the subject matter. If it's something urgent, I would try to respond to it by the end of the day. If it's not urgent, then a couple of days is probably okay.
You can always mark an email as urgent if it's really important
Depends a lot on situational and what is happening. If it.is for an order of supplies that has a deadline to order by today at 5pm, the it is important.
If it is what type of group celebration should your team do for monthly birthdays, that can wait.
Emails should be reviewed as soon as one can, but if it isn't imperative, then it could maybe hold a day. If it impacts someone else's job, patient/customer (internal customers "coworkers" count), then it should be a bit higher priority.
No one like touching work multiple times over when possibly a quick response can be given by a person with the knowledge. Making them wait for an answer, touching items more than once or twice, impacting their workload, should have a priority over just having a set guideline that I Don't respond for a day or two.
Now, if it requires a lot of research. It could take a couple of days to get right people ,correct answers. Those shouldn't be hurried, but it is nice to respond and say that you have to look into it, see you and your message and am looking into it and it could take a couple of days.
I have always been told that emails should be responded to in a 24 hour period. 48 hours is probably fine if it isn't urgent, but I would probably try to get back to them sooner than three days. It definitely depends on what the email is about and how important it is.

I certainly try to but sometimes it is just far too many to be able to respond that quickly.
Generally, 24 hours is our expected turnaround. There is a long list of variables that can either move that up or make it longer. Do you feel like you’ve ever not gotten to something truly urgent? I know many people feel like everything they send is high priority, but the reality is our workloads are more than just a single coworker's messages.

I am typically able to get to urgent things within the day.
If it is something that they feel is urgent they need to let you know that. No, you’re not being unreasonable.
I believe your internal customer (coworker) service demonstrates how you treat external customers. Acknowledge each email and let the sender know when to expect a response. It's professional courtesy. If it requires a more urgent response, the sender now has an opportunity to let you know. All communications are important. Including yours.
It sounds like you have a cow-orker that requires constant hand holding & is unable to make decisions on their own.
Pro
Yeah that is probably true.
If it is part of your job then yes, checking your email is to be done several times a day. If this is not work related then then once a week is even fine. Let your friends know to contact you after work via text or a call but you really don’t email much.
I hope this helps.
If it is during work time yes do respond if it is after 5 and your off the clock I wouldn't respond sorry but leave work at work and home at home respect the boundaries we all have lives and family out side of work
Pro
I definitely don’t respond after work hours even though others do.
Like most people mentioned in their previous responses it depends on the situation, If It is something urgent relating to you being off on that day OR if It is work related I answer it during work hours but If it is non-work related then I usually wait till the weekend to check my non-work related emails and respond to them on the weekend because the weekends give me time to look at the emails, read them and respond calmly.
