Probably try some online teaching. I saw this company Elevate k12 is looking for French teachers. Check it out.
Have you tried subbing or tutoring? I know my friend uses the Senya app to find sub jobs, and she doesn't have a degree. You could also reframe your skills for tutoring or online language teaching parents and companies pay for 1:1 or small group lessons, which need no extra degree, and it helps you earn while you pivot into related fields.
Have you tried Sumner County Schools? They have a great program for people just like you! Go their website and look at TEACHSUMNER or Job embedded.
I 100% would be leveraging those skills with a youtube channel and social media presence. It might take a bit to start monetizing your content, but why not start while you're on the job hunt? What type of licensing do you need for Christian schools? Is it something that can be done with a course or is it more extensive?
Same issue in our area. You need a big high school that can support multiple foreign language offerings. Outside Cleveland, Columbus, and the I-75 corridor, it will be slim pickings. Yep, look at the various online companies starting with Edmentum or Edgenuity. You’re only looking at $20-25 an hour but you can work from home. Some districts need certified teachers to work with virtual kids. Subbing gets you into the school and classroom but not necessarily French. Definitely take any French sub assignments you can. Look for Adjunct French instructor options for a local college. Sorry. Wish I had better news.
Probably very few French sub jobs. Once you get known you might get a few. I have a math certification and probably only get one math assignment a week.
Get out of Ohio and find a state that needs your expertise. CCSD is hiring. 😉
UPDATE: I expanded my search radius to Cincy and got a split middle/highschool job as a French teacher - hopefully I can just listen to music/audiobooks/podcasts and the 50 min drive won't hurt too bad.
Start making a list of the independent/ private schools in Cincinnati: Summit, St. Xavier, Cincinnati Country Day, etc. for the future. Congratulations on getting your job !
Have you ever though about moving to Huntsville AL. The school here and the university are in needed for teachers
I too worked a “niche” subject and moved to my current home for family reasons. I accepted that I would have to drive a ways every day…and did so for 22 years. It’s tough but doable. Also remember the game of musical chairs for teaching positions is just ramping up to full doors. Hang in there. Don’t panic yet.
I’d suggest looking at larger districts as my district doesn’t offer French. If you’re flexible, many schools are willing to offer an alternative license because we do not have enough teachers.
Good luck on the job front!
Search online. Good Luck!
I don't know where you are, but Westlake City schools have French and Spanish K-12. That's in Cuyahoga County. If you have credentials from your previous state, Ohio will work with you to get the credentials here. I hope that helps 🙏
Sending good vibes to you 🍀🙏☮️🍀
Join the Ohio bowl, someone might have more/better information to help you. 🤔🤷♀️
Good luck 🙏🍀🙏
I left Ohio 31 years ago because I couldn't find a Science teaching position. It was difficult because the school systems were not growing so I would have had to wait a long time for teachers to retire. I left and have been a teacher for 30.years now . I know moving again is not what you want to do but it sounds like the job market has not really changed in 30 years. So sorry
