I recently interviewed for L7 EM at Google and had 4 great interviews and one not so great system design. I submitted external referrals all of which gave great feedback. The recruiter said the next step is team match/interviews and then the HC. Anyone in a similar situation? What was the result? Google

Unless there is a hot project with a tight deadlne, this is an oddly slave-like culture. You are not being a slacker for wanting to be normal. However,this is conformity pressure and could cause coworker agistation or worse sabotogue. Always lock your computer when you take a break away from your desk! This is a flag and I would put in 3 months and seek greener pastures. Just be pleasant and professional meanwhile...
Crazy... thought I was the only one with that situation. I leave everyday and go buy some lunch. Its a mental reset.

Id just start your own routine of eating lunch in the kitchen. It's not awkward being on your own and other people may join you! If anyone questions it just say you like the change of scenery.

Viewed another way, they may just not want to socialize over lunch. Just because they are sitting at their desk doesn't mean they are working.
Personally, I wouldn't want to work in a culture like that but I'm an extrovert and enjoy socializing with my peers over lunch. I work in an environment where that is common.
