I passed a job interview a year ago, signed the contract and completed everything required for the job including a new DBS paid for by myself. But, I have never started the job and I never had any written correspondence from the company. Every time I emailed them about a start date, they would call the next day with the promise that I would start soon. After a year, I sent again another email asking for an update and was told that they haven't got a job to give me.

Entity A and B have a partnership such that me working for entity B will create conflict of interest. Considering becoming a consultant lawyer. Any advice/tips from someone who made that move?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

What is a reasonable pay increase? This will be my first pay increase. I make 70k now and will be starting my second year at big law. I had 3 years of prior experience before joining the firm.

I’m my partners only associate and I went on parental leave two weeks ago. I feel horrible for leaving him to handle our cases alone, but am trying to focus on my wife and new baby. That being said, should I still offer to handle minor matters that come in to ease the workload off my boss? He’s been super cool during my entire leave, so I don’t feel pressured to one bit.
