I really want to stay at my current company for as long as possible. What are the best ways to guarantee that you will stay with your current company, and what are some extra things you can do to be even more sure that layoffs won't impact you? I really want to be the best I can for this company and want to make a positive impact there!

Also attitude. No one likes a long term highly paid employee who’s a pain in the ass. Long timers tend to get bold and cause drama because they feel power shifting to new generations. Stay positive and don’t cause unnecessary BS for your leadership. It’s not kissing ass it’s focusing on what you can control instead of bitching about everything you can’t.

Yes! People don't seem to talk about this enough and how people can get fed up with politics and become bitter

Get closer to the decision making and ensure your role is directly tied to revenue generation

Agree that being a thought leader or a decision leader also helps. Thank you!!

First of all, recognize that your loyalty may not last. If you stay at one organization too long you'll be pigeonholed and taken for granted, and new arrivals around you will be earning more. However, if you're determined to be loyal, do a great job and make yourself indispensable, or as close to that as you can achieve.

Good advice! Thank you!!

You need to balance the aim of longevity at your current job with the reality that a lot of it is out of your control, and you need to prepare for that situation too. Making yourself indispensable can help, but focus on adaptability and learning skills that will get you through a layoff if it does happen.

I agree with always learning new skills that will make you hard to replace! Thanks!

Be a continuous learning and be considered an asset to other departments like sales and product.

Yes, becoming specialized in different areas and constantly eager to learn is so important!!

Retention insurance comes down to two things: visibility and adjacency to revenue. Own something measurable — a channel, a number, a launch — so your impact isn't abstract when budget season hits. Laterally, get close to the teams that generate or protect revenue; marketing folks who can speak to pipeline or retention are the last to go. Beyond that, be the person who makes their manager look good. Indispensable is a myth — irreplaceable in context is real. What's the metric you currently own?

Recently, the CEO and my boss, the VP gave me the latitude to promote myself and "write my own" job description. I've been the Marketing Manager of this company for about 7 months. Already received 1 raise.

Much of the work in my "new" job description, I've already been doing. My currently salary is $70K. New title is Director of Communications and Systems Integration. What is a reasonable salary increase here.

I have about 7 years experience in this area.
