Oh wow. That place sounds like a massive red flag. I wouldn't take any of it personal, but instead, use it as a learning experience. I remember once accepting a job I SWORE I wouldn't take because the place was extremely disorganized and then was fired for not getting it "in order" within 4 weeks time, which really took a hit on my mental wellbeing (made me feel like a failure). Point is... I should have listened to my gut in the first place.
Well, you can thank your lucky stars that you got out of there! That's the first thing. It's really unfortunate that they wasted your time and I'm sorry that you got fired, but it sounds like a super toxic work environment and now you can move on to something better.
I highly doubt it was anything you did, unfortunately, some jobs are just really that bad. I’ve had some horror stories too. I just try to take those red flags and remember them for the next time.
Sorry this happened to you. Word of caution... NEVER NEVER use any company issued devices (cell phone, desk top or PC) for any personal communications. Majority of employers have the legal right to access all your work issued devices at any time and hold things against you when firing you and then denying state unemployment benefits b/c they will have their legal HR Dept. show proof of denial of unemployment benefit which unfortunately most states will honor. The more people the employer pay unemployment benefits to the higher the state will charge the said employer. The employer makes payment to the state for unemployment benefit.
You can sue a company for accessing your private email. Generally, accessing someone's personal email without authorization is illegal and can be a basis for a lawsuit. Whether you have a valid claim depends on several factors, including the nature of the email (personal vs. work-related), the company's policies, and the laws of your jurisdiction.
