If you jumped shipped because of DEI? Then you acted on emotion and impulse.....
OP good for you. I'm not sure about your situation but I believe you can always boomerang.
My advice to you is speak to a financial advisor and get advice on how you can grow your savings in the meantime.
The second is to take a few months to volunteer. Don't make any decisions just allow yourself to explore.
Finally connect with the Xoogler community now and seek a mentor or a programme that'll help you with your transition. Don't do this all on your own.
A lot of people are miserable at the company and they stay because they have to. You are young, with no kids and you are free. Go enjoy life and you'll figure it out along the way.
Maybe look into a political party you respect or something human rights related or a think tank. If there is one book you sold read it's what color is your parachute. It helped me when I resigned with no plan at 25. I'm it again 10 years later and can't recommend it enough
Make sure you invest some of the money you made and go work somewhere where you enjoy the mission of that company. Obviously you know how to execute work products so you wouldn’t have made it three years so find something that you’re passionate about and go put in the effort there.
For sure! Right now I am trying to find a good balance for mission and pay.
I am fine taking the pay cut but it’s hard to find roles that will offer me the growth needed to justify it sometimes. The market is pretty rough right now but I’m sure there will be more opportunities ahead.
Good for you. Xoogler here, thought the place was horrid and the people were childish and stupid. I only lasted a year, I can’t fathom how you lasted for 3!
I think you made the right decision. In my opinion, companies like Google offer great development opportunities and it looks great on your resume, but the workload is not sustainable for everyone. I've only been here for 11 months and I'm treating it like what it is - a stepping stone. I'm learning best practices and strategies to be great for the next employer unless I find something I absolutely love at Google.
Good on you for doing what you believe to be right for you, and hopefully you find what you’re looking for. But one piece of advice, a healthy amount of cynicism helps you separate emotions of the harsh realities of this world from the practicality of a *job* (that’s all this is)
May all of the wonderful opportunities come your way. Best of luck!
DEIB is not about RACE and the beneficiaries are not black people. Diversity, EQUITY, inclusion and belonging was created for ALL and should benefit ALL! Those who feel, think or believe otherwise have no sense of unity or humanity. Ask yourself...what does it mean to care for someone else other than SELF?
I already replied to a similar commenter from someone with a similar level of reading comprehension as you so feel free to check that out
I can’t say I’d blame a URM for supporting DEI but the best ones admit it’s cancerous in the long run and shamelessly selfish to support it in the short run.
that’s what I thought lol
