I started a paralegal wins Slack channel at work, and honestly? Game changer. It’s where we hype each other up for things no one else notices like getting a finicky filing accepted on the first try or spotting a typo before the doc goes to a client. No partners, no lawyers, just us paralegals cheering each other on. It’s lowkey the most motivating part of my week. Do you have any group chats, rituals, or small traditions that help boost morale?

This sounds like an awesome group! Good for you for taking the initiative. How are you connecting with fellow paralegals on there? I've got to admit, I don't know a whole lot about Slack and wouldn't know the first thing about finding other professionals on the platform - would love to participate in a chat like this all the same though!

The OP’s slack channel sounds like it is internally for the firm. So the people on it are just other paralegals at the same firm.

If you firm has Microsoft Teams then a channel / group can be created on there. We tried this a bit at my firm, people posting vacation and pet photos, but it fizzled out a bit with time.

That’s awesome! I’ve been brainstorming some similar ideas for us coming into the new year. We did a one-word challenge last year, and it was great.

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. I work until 7p at least every night. Top 10 family law firm.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.
