I started working as a roadway designer at a medium firm after my master's. My supervisors want to make me billable all the time, I have to keep working even if there's not much work. Billability is so important that my supervisor is forcing me go to office everyday despite being hybrid job though my coworkers can work from home. Also I'm required to call my supervisor when I get to office and before I leave. Is it a problem with small firms or does it happen at big firms too?

It happens everywhere, ESPECIALLY big companies . Also, as you mentioned, you started working there straight out of your masters so it's probably safe to assume you're relatively new to the industry and green compared to your counterparts who are operating remotely. Take the experience of working on site. There's a lot of experiences lost when working remote/hybrid that you want to absorb while young and inexperienced.

Since the Job Market is quite hot. This place is to put all your interview questions so that it might help others as well.

I didn't apply for a job that would have set me up for the future in the government. I wouldn't have to worry about money or future jobs. My boss had just given me a small pay rise and talked up the future and so I felt good. I now severely regret not applying for the job and cannot stop thinking about it to the point of insomnia and depression. I even contacted the employer but too late. It's a small town and rarely anything comes up. I hate myself and feel like I failed my family. :(

I have a business idea in the VR/AR space utilizing AI. However, I lack skill sets to evaluate viability or to create an MVP. Neither do I have a network to tap into.

My plan is taking classes to deepen my knowledge while joining and actively participating in communities to find collaborators.

Does this approach make sense or do you recommend other approaches? If it makes sense, do you have any recommendations for classes or communities?

Look forward to hearing your experiences and wisdom!

Should I specialize in Blockchain or AI? I’m a freshman in a CS degree and I can’t decide. My main argument to choose blockchain is the easy entry with little experience and high salary, I plan on growing my skills during the bear market and get a job once the market recovers. Regarding AI, I find this field fascinating but I feel like it requires a lot of experience, degrees and diplomas.
