You’re required to quarantine 10 days from the day you started symptoms, or the day you first tested positive, whichever was earlier. After that day, as long as your fever has been gone for at least 24 hours and you have been improving, you are cleared to re-enter society lol… even if you still have other symptoms. Source: This is what CDC directed me to do when I tested positive. So if your flight is really 2 weeks away, as in 14 days, you should be fine.
Only 5 days
If you’re in NYC you can call the covid test and trace corps and ask to be put up in a hotel to isolate! They cover the hotel, transport to, and food tho idk how good the food is. More details are in various posts on the nyc and nyccoronavirus subreddits.
Apparently the phone line has been getting more calls lately bc of the omicron spike here, so you may need to try a few times to get through, as a heads up!
Can't hurt to check whether you qualify for the hotel isolation program https://www1.nyc.gov/site/helpnownyc/get-help/covid-19-hotel-program.page
The same hotline number can also help with figuring out what resources are potentially available.
Rent a car and drive home?
That sounds kinda awesome
Honestly I’d just reach out to Airbnb and let them know your situation - let them know a couple days would help you and see if they can offer a discount to help if it’s not booked. And ask your family to quarantine you in a room too.
Perfect!! That’s very helpful. Thank
Is there anyway to quarantine at your family’s house? A spare bedroom or something?
Most rooms probably don’t have intake vents - if it does, cover it with tape. If there’s only one vent in the ceiling/floor that air comes out of, it will never pull air back into the system. A minimal amount of air will escape under the door back into the house but I don’t think this is significant.
What were your original plans beyond the airbnb stay?
Can you quarantine there?
Latest guidelines in NYC are if you’re “an essential worker” fully vaxxed you can return to work 5 days after first symptoms if you are symptom free for 72 hours - I’d personally wait at least 7 days (CDC guideline from this fall).
