Somehow a 60k f150 became normal. Absolutely insane.
Yea I’m Nov 2019 I almost bought one. I saw a Roush edition and I think they were asking for like $75k or something and in retrospect WOW what an idiot I was for not spending $75k on a truck. I could have been driving it for “free” all the time. If I ever got a time machine I wouldn’t go back to stop hitler I’d go to tell myself to buy that truck or one of the multiple Raptors they had on the lot immediately. Who would have thought that would have been the financially *responsible* thing to do
Car prices didn’t increase, the value of the dollar simply cratered
I actually don't think it's that bad. The average cost of a new car in 2020 was $37,876
The average cost of a car in 2000 was $21,850, which adjusted for inflation is $36,480. Sure things are way up now but that has more to deal with supply and dealer markups rather than raw MSRP.
That being said, the cheap beater new car is gone, but tbh was anyone really that happy when they bought an Aveo?
Ford Maverick is your answer
Rising Star
That’s why I’m buying the PEAR, only 30k, 22,500 after tax credit
It’s combination of inflation and customer demand/preferences.
The more and more mandatory safety equipment you require the more the cost goes up. Side curtain airbags? Yeah those were an added cost option for years, they are industry standard now.
We also simply demanded more as a consumer. We now criticize Honda when they only put an 8 inch screen in a civic and not a 10 inch. A civic! We all wanted larger tires, they responded as standard. We simply made all the original options standard ones now, and they price accordingly.
Frankly we did this to ourselves as consumers, automakers simply responded, and we keep buying their cars.
Wild how easy it is to spend 100k on a car today.
