What's the salary range for a director at the Gilead Sciences foundation? There is a position perfect for me, but I don't want to throw my hat in the ring if starting salary isn't $180-190k. Also, any thoughts on the stability of their philanthropic commitment? There's talk of a recession; I don't want to go private to be cute a few months later.

Working a lot doesn't get you promoted, in fact, it might stiffle you as they want to keep you there for a long time.
Making a lot of noise even about the littlest thing gets you promoted.

Yea this like such a fine line to walk. Because if you don’t make extra effort, you’re never going to get promoted. But then again, if you make too much effort and never get promoted anyway it really doesn’t motivate you to keep trying. So I get it.
I think, in order to succeed and achieve better things for yourself, you have to do things that you don’t normally do. However, when making the extra effort, it’s important when to realize when it’s time to cut your losses. Meaning, go ahead and go the extra mile for a certain reasonable time period. But after this time period if you’re still not seeing any movement in your career or you’re not feeling supported in your desire for growth, then at that point, stop doing the extra. And start looking for another job that will actually support your growth and your career goals.
As mentioned above, it’s a fine line. You need to go above and beyond but also know when to stop giving if you’re not receiving. I personally have very open and continuous dialogue with my mentors/coaches and even with my mentees/coachees so everyone knows everyone’s goals, progress made towards them, areas of improvement, and importantly timeline of a potential promotion. I have zero insight into the raise/bonus structure of my company but I make sure I help all team members get where they want (as long as they’re not jerks), even if it’s outside of our company.
