I walked into an interview today with a full 20-page pitch deck on their top three competitors, and the interviewer seemed annoyed that I did too much. Damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. You’re either unprepared or you’re too intense. Is there a safe zone for effort?

Depends on the role. If the job was for a research analyst that might the been appropriate. But other roles are about simplifying and providing short impactful summaries. 20 pages isn’t a pitch deck, it’s a research report that most people wouldn’t read.

Did you ask them about “the look”? Something like, “does the company appreciate this kind of detailed work?” Or, “you seem puzzled by the work I brought with me, can you say more about that?” Never let them get away with “a look.”

Sorry to hear that. I’m sure it was a lot of work and quite the let down.

What does the group focus on in terms of work, what are hours like, decent exit Ops, interview process etc? I'm currently an Analyst in an industry specific Corporate Banking group at a competitor of Citi so I have experience underwriting HY transactions and portfolio management.

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

Money isn’t everything but in my late 20s it feels like the only thing important right now.

WLB is next to zero as 60hr weeks are the minimum as of late. Management feels like they are trying to push a few of us out. Was told not to expect much come year end for comp. Any suggestions on finding a new role/pay expectations?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
