Help. For me that looks like: A Nanny. Equal amounts partnership and labor with husband. Alignment on priorities with husband. Supportive work environment (despite demanding and 5-7 day work weeks). And a strong team. (Ignore the dated FB title, Csuite/SVP level now)

All the help. Work smarter, not harder. House cleaners (who also help with laundry), lawn care, meal service 2-3 days a week… we also eat a lot of carry out. You absolutely have to either live near family or have super reliable childcare that can help with the weird hours and travel schedules. I know many of my peers go the aupair route, but that wasn’t something we were comfortable with, personally. My company offers a concierge service as part of our benefits package and they can help with things like getting the dogs to the groomer, oil changes, dry cleaning, scheduling appointments, etc.

I wish I had family nearby (or youthful enough!) to contribute meaningful help. I envy that. I second all the outside support you have and pov on Au Pairs.

Stay at home spouse

like

lol. With a support team. I was the stay-at-home spouse for years and it would not have worked if there wasn't some sort of system in place or a "fall person". Close relatives, a nanny, a cleaning lady, friends are all people I've seen other couples use to help manage it all.

My bf was just asked to go back to the office (not an essential worker). We’re on the west coast so still have COVID cases. Are there workplace protections that he can use if he says he’s not comfortable with it yet? We live together and are both uncomfortable with the idea, but don’t want to risk him getting fired or experiencing backlash at work. He’s been working from home for 9 weeks already.
