Can you adjust your resume slightly to fit more for junior roles? The same resume might be working against you.
I was in the similar boat , but you just have to keep pushing, and you will eventually find something that fits
That’s exactly what I’ve been experiencing. They seem to think I’m overqualified because of my education and background. I’ve been trying to get referrals from friends to see if that can help me get my foot in the door somewhere.
I'd really love to understand what is the rationale behind being "overqualified". What are recruiters worried about? Are you going to flip tables and challenge everything your boss tells you? If anything, you'll be prepared to face everything that comes your way! I bet this comes from a few bad experiences with candidates that put this prejudice in place. It would be great if a recruiter shed some light on it.
This is so real. I’ve had slightly better luck by explicitly addressing it in my cover/intro (“I’m comfortable at this level and here’s why”) and targeting companies that are earlier stage or understaffed, where extra experience is a plus, not a threat.
That’s a tough spot to be in. Sometimes it helps to reposition your story, target roles where your experience feels like a strong match not a risk, and be clear about why you want that level long term so teams don’t worry you’ll leave quickly.
