I was recently promoted to management and I will be doing interviews for hiring. Question for hiring managers- how do you handle salary negotiations and discussion in the interview? Just refer them back to HR, right?

Yep. I let them know that finances and compensation will be handled by human resources. It's not really anything I have anything to do with, though I do understand when they have questions about it.

Have a general understanding of what the role budget is. This really depends on how your company handles it. It’s a 2 way street between HR and the hiring manager, usually.

HR handles that. Unless you directly control the budget / P&L you won't be involved.

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position. I feel like it gave the impression that I don’t know what I’m doing. Any suggestion how I can recover from this?

Im currently going through industry change.
Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.

Anybody know salary range for VP Operations for GS in SLC?

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?
