STARTUP FOUNDERS and FAANG: would you rather hire MBB with 3-4 years of exp or Tier 2 with 5-6 years? If you could isolate those variables and everything else held constant.

Dude you're worrying about the wrong things

Because everyone else is deciding to give you a difficult time and assuming you aren’t recognizing the shallow nature of this question. I’ll answer because there likely is an answer. MBB with 3-4 years.

Thank you

I’m also worried about Trump winning.

Current founder - no one with a consulting background cracks my top 50-100 in hiring list

likefunny

M2 - yes I have. It's not that a consultant can't do the work, its that I can find someone else who can do the work (even say at 70% the quality of a former consultant) at half the cost.

Would i hire most senior associate/manager/principals i know? Absolutely I would. Would I pay them the salary they want for the skillset/experience they bring? No way (or it just doesn't make sense from a runrate perspective)

The people I can afford. Would I hire an analyst/Jr. Associate at the comp they want + experience they bring? No way.

[Edit] When I say I say I wouldn't hire an ex-consultant in my top 100, I don't mean I don't think consultants don't bring value. I just don't think there's enough scale in the business to justify such a move. Consultants are paid VERY well. You'd be surprised at the salary expectations of consultants vs nonconsultants.

Startups don’t look to hire consultants in general. You best bet to joining a startup is to get poached from FAANG or a VC firm or create your own.

As for FAANG they look to hire consultants for some PM roles so that’s your best bet into there. Years of experience isn’t important, but MBB makes a big difference in getting your resume looked at.

like

Years of exp are still important for FAANG, fwiw

I would hire whoever was better at explaining problems to me and had the ability to pull the data on their own. I cannot trust you know what you’re talking about if you don’t know exactly where that # came from. And it’s not like it’s hard to do this. If that was equal, then MBB for their presumed network

like

Probably neither

Show me one of your pitches to Walmart or Target that ended there

Depends on the project experience... not gonna blindly choose based on prestige or YOE

As if you're firm really matters.... Try demonstrating the value you can bring and maybe you'll have a shot

Anyone hiring those who have been out of work for a year? I took time off to tend to personal matters, but I am now looking to get back into the workforce again. My previous experience includes time at B4 audit up to senior level and then transitioned to manager in industry. Senior/manager roles are preferred.

I don’t mind audit. However, I’d prefer it not to be at a B4, as I am looking for some semblance of a work life balance.

DM me if you have something above, thanks.
