It’s def a humble brag, but I’m mostly just really excited that things turned around. It felt pretty bleak there for a minute, but I’ve been working really hard at my job hunting strategy and it’s nice to see it finally pay off. Hopefully others in similar positions will be encouraged to keep at it!
@ACD1 haha no, not there anymore, just having a hard time getting Fishbowl to accept the changes to my details.
As for the strategy, a lot of the change was around abandoning the idea that the work is the most important thing and can speak for itself, and understanding how to better frame my accomplishments. In other words, sell my thought process and really be able to verbalize my approach and accomplishments in ways that address specific needs of the specific companies I was talking to. Being able to do that concisely and confidently really changed things for me.
Also, 90% of my interviews came through applying directly through the company’s website or via LinkedIn, and not external recruiters or my own personal network, which I thought was weird.

And you still work at Vayner?
@OP well played 👊
Slay
Wish more people would throw wads of $$$ around.
@SC1 for linked in, I made sure I was really timely. I had a series of key terms I’d search for and I’d apply the “posted in the last 24hrs” filter so I had al the most recent shit and those are the places I’d hit up. I’d say 80% of the LinkedIn interviews I got came from listings that had only been live for a couple of days. I also always included a cover letter when it was requested and I made sure the cover letter used key phrases that mirrored language from the job posting.
I’d also rewrite my linked in occasionally, trying to figure out more succinct ways to say things, get rid of stuff that felt redundant, and see if I could incorporate things i frequently looked for by employers. And I read a LOT of other people’s profiles - people I admired, people who had career paths like mine, people who worked at companies I was interested in, and I’d see how they were marketing themselves and over time I got better and better at being able to write about my experience in more relevant ways. I always find self editing sort of difficult (I mean look how long this response is) so I also asked people close to me to review my resume and linked in from time to time for honest feedback and I really listened to what they had to say.
What prompted the change?
What type of strategery is this that’s finally paying off?
Nothing humble about this brag, but I’m living for it! Keep killin it OP
What kind of roles are you going for?
Linkedin feels a total black hole, at least for me. Anything you specifically did there?
