I work an an amlaw200 firm that is not paying me very well, I’m struggling to keep up with my finances, but I worry that if I move to a smaller firm, I will ruin my chances to get back into an amlaw200 firm. Is it the wrong choice to make a move to a non-amlaw 200 firm? I’m a 4th year associate.

I make more money at a small firm than I made at an AMLaw 100. I think I could get back in if I wanted to.

I wouldn’t get caught up the size of the firm. Focus on pay, practice characteristics, and your goals as a lawyer. Most of us will pivot a few times on our careers. Good luck!

Make the move.

Undervalued is undervalued. No matter how you slice it. Make the move.

Find a reputable mid-sized boutique. They often have just as good or better reputations than an AmLaw200 in your practice area. AmLaw is based purely on revenue, and plenty of AmLaw100 firms actually have PPP and RPL comparable to MidLaw firms.

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

I want to get out of ID so badly. I don’t mind the work but the hours are just killing me. I just started at a new firm less than 6 months ago and I am already desperate to get out. It is not the firm or the people. I just hate the high billables. I have been applying to other jobs but I think I may need a recruiter for help. Any recommendation for a great recruiter in NYC?

Anyone know when Ch. 7 BKs must close by? Is this changed by when there are adversary proceedings (alleged fraudulent transfers made to a bank for CC payments)? Asking for my friend who is unfortunately involved bc of his parents, who are the debtors (he isn’t a defendant or a debtor in this, but the payments were made to a CC in his name—a CC he didnt know was opened in his name).

Its in Texas, and the initial BK filing was made about 23 months ago. TIA!

How are 1st year litigation associates dealing with WFH? I’ve been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks, and pretty sure my billables wont exceed 110 for April. I’ve been super stressed about it and don’t know how to move on to May with the proper mindset to make up for as much time missed as possible. CA courts are still closed, and I’m worried I won’t be able to exceed (or even meet) my May goal after April.
