Reply all with yet another zinger. Then they'll all lift you up on their shoulders and carry you triumphantly to the UCB theater
HR ladies? Grow up
You seem really great to work with
Next time just fix the toilet.
Not racist, IMO…just lazy and trying too hard. Speaking of…
Back during the CP+B "Agency of the Decade" years, employees were allowed to write their own "intro" emails to the whole agency. Usually, from the people who weren't needy and desperate, it was a quick intro, maybe a funny line here or there, and that's it.
But this one dude...he went off on this tangent that was trying to be "irreverent" or "edgy" and it devolved into him "joking" about (and I'm boiling it down, it was a very LONG unfunny email) sexually assaulting women in the parking lot late at night after long work days haAhHaaHAhaHa, or some such f'n lunacy.
He was fired literally the next day. Pack your shit. Go. Moral of the story: don't TRY to be funny like with, you know, worn out poopy jokes. Just BE funny.
(Any other Crispin Boulder folks remember this?)
Remember hearing about this moments before I sent my own intro out at CP+B.
I understand OP's point but this type of joke only lands if you know her really well and you guys have that kind of relationship.
If you were someone I didn't know very well and you said that to me, I would see it as inappropriate and immature. I may not say anything to you (or HR) about it, but I would make a mental note about you and your behavior and move differently around you from then on.
The fact that you refer to a colleague as “an opposing team” speaks loudly about your attitude towards your co-workers. You let that slip.
This seems like a desperate plea to be fired.
So if an agency is trying to do good work, that gives you license to be an annoying person. Got it. I remember when my huge shop suddenly started doing good work with new creative leadership and overnight a bunch of annoying snots who thought they were hot 💩 showed up, even though they had nothing to do with the actual turnaround. Sounds like OP.
envelope pushing work … pharma
avant garde… potty humor
calling an 80s dad joke “avant garde” and your coworkers “opposing team”. yeah dude you just might suck and people are bored of it. not the instance, but maybe the pattern
Sometimes it’s okay to leave your quips in the drafts g
WHY? Why would someone do this to anyone in a professional environment? What if her whole house is caving in and it's the worst stress of her life? (Plumbing issues can literally wreck homes). This person is very out of touch and was not friends with the recipient otherwise she would not have handled it the way she did. I think it's great she called them out for being a moron in front of everyone. Get that box ready.
Because its funny and we work in a field that’s supposed to encourage uninhibited creative expression….?
If this art director is that peeved about a playful mexican food joke, I really dont think this is the field for her. Moreover, immediately mobilizing the troops and launching an all out offensive on this guys character by CCing HR, creatives, etc, is a hugely disproportionate response to what could have easily been solved with one mature conversation between adults.
Personally, if im HR reading an email about how a colleague created a toxic work environment by making a silly joke about mexican food, I’d tell them to grow the hell up.
Your joke didn't land. Be funnier next time.
You’re saying it was too sophisticated?
Slightly off the subject- if you don't mind my asking? How did you capture this job? Which platform did you apply at?.
So may platforms- I wonder which really work. Much appreciated.
This conversation is one of the many reasons I retired after 38 years in the industry. Advertising designers today seem to care more about being offended and their social status rather than taking care of their customer and creating good design.
