Yes I've had several customers like this, usually of the older generation. They are just extremely lonely and want to talk to someone. I don't mind when they come in on a slow day, but it's different when they come in and I'm busy and they are not respectful of my need to make money and do my job. If this happens, I just tell them I'm sorry I need to take care of this customer but if you need my help again just let me know. Honestly to me I think it is a little weird, because if I'm lonely I either call my family or friends or if I didn't have any I would go somewhere and make friends. Keeping a worker hostage, because they know that person will be nice to them because it's their job, is a little strange to do on a regular basis.
Not normal, but I'm also not sure I'd call it weird. It sounds like someone who is extremely lonely. I feel bad for people like that and try to talk to them when I have the time, but you also have a job to do. Sometimes you have to cut the convo short and walk away.
i think this is honestly so wholesome. Not weird at all. Some customers just enjoy the connection and friendly chat almost like visiting a community spot. It can feel nice to be that friendly face, but if it starts eating into your work or feels one-sided, it’s okay to gently set boundaries.
Worked close to an old folks home, and there was this one guy who would come in to the store almost everyday to just buy a candy bar and chat. Yes, it seems weird, but its really just wholesome. Haven’t seen that guy in a long time, but I sure as wish hell I has customers as nice as him now lol
I’m looking for jobs
I had a customer like this. It turned sour when she thought it was appropriate to speak ill of me to other customers, simply to have my time to herself. I finally had to put my foot down.
Not at all I like connecting with customer's yes it's taking your time but it helps.
